About

About Is the Ferry Full?

A free, independent tool for checking how full BC Ferries sailings are right now.

What this site is

Is the Ferry Full? shows how full BC Ferries sailings are right now, for the major routes, so travellers can decide whether to leave early or wait for a later sailing. The homepage lists the next sailing on every tracked route with live vehicle-deck capacity, updated every five minutes. Tap any route for the full day's sailings, or browse individual vessels to see where a specific ship is sailing.

Who runs it

Built and operated by Scott Mitchell in Victoria, BC. It's part of the RoadsBC network of independent BC travel-status sites — covering BC highways and ferries at a glance. You can reach us at hello@istheferryfull.ca.

Where the data comes from

Live capacity data comes from the community-run BC Ferries API at bcferriesapi.ca, which reads publicly posted BC Ferries sailing information. This site is independent and not affiliated with, endorsed by, or operated by British Columbia Ferry Services Inc. Always confirm with bcferries.com before travelling.

How accurate it is

Capacity figures reflect what BC Ferries has published at the time of the last check, and can lag real conditions by a few minutes. Deck space can also change quickly near sailing time as vehicles arrive, board, or are turned away. Treat this as a planning aid, not a guarantee — when a sailing is close to full, arrive early, and always check bcferries.com for the official status.

For the bigger picture, our sailing history & fill % data page shows which sailings actually fill up, by day of week and time of day, drawn from the same five-minute polling.

Free, and stays that way
